It was a hectic day on this faithful friday for me and my best friend Aissa in Sandton. A friend of ours invited us to an acting audition. The audition was about a sopie on mtv channel called “shuga”. We have never being to Sandton on transport but we decided to give it a trial that Friday. The address was sent to me on BBM(blackberry messenger), we had no idea how to locate the place, we had to show the address to the bus driver and he accepted to drop us there. We got into the bus and the driver took off, on getting to Sandton, he stopped and said to us, “you can get off here, take your left and go towards the BP garage”.
We did as he said, but unknown to us the drive has no idea where we were going and instead of telling us, he just left there. It was a terrific experience. We had no idea where to go from the garage. We decided to keep walking. We walked for some miles and there was still no trace of the place. The day was cloudy, windy and it was about to rain, I had no umbrella with me but to God be the glory my friend remembered to bring one along, which was our only savior although it was a small one and the wind tried severally unsuccessfully to snatch it away from us but we tried to hold it tight. We kept on walking, at a time; my friend suggested that we try one of the producer’s cell phone numbers because we were getting lost. I did and she said we were still far and it’s not a walking distance, that to us was crazy because we’ve being walking for hours and now this lady is telling us we were still very far away. We were tired and hungry, I actually suggested we go back home but my friend was like; let’s continue, we’ve come a long way and going back is not a better idea now. So we called the lady again and asked how we can get a taxi to the place, she told us how and where to drop.
We took the taxi and finally we got the place, Ahh, what a relief. We got in and they were all apologizing, offering us snacks, cold drink, beer but all we asked for was a glass of water first before any other thing. We sat down, took the glass and then went for the snacks and cold drink. The audition was not really an audition, it was more like a chat with the producers because we were seated in a big round table while the producers throw questions and we all attempted from our different personal perspectives. The meeting went successfully although we were late but at least we attended, we managed to get there. We actually left before time because it was getting late and we came from a far place. It was 6.50 and we needed to get going or we will be stalked in Sandton.
We waved them goodbye and thanked them for having us and then, was the beginning of another problem; getting a taxi to go home. It was late and all the buses were gone, we stood by the road for hours waiting to catch a bus but none was available. We were devastated, I was actually boiling inside, I was so upset and we had no idea where to go from there. There was nowhere to spend the night and we had no cash to lodge into a hotel. It was terrible, we were confused, no one had an idea on what to do and my friend needed to get home because her elder has being calling to know where she was, and she told no one where she was going because we left from school. The sister was pretty upset because Aissa refused to pick her calls, but to God may have it, my friend had some cab drivers’ contacts, we contacted them, the first number we tried went through although we had no cash on us, and we had an agreement to pay when we get home, the cab driver accepted.
He had to drop my friend first because she stays with her sister in bucclue while I stay around school. On agreement, the cab driver dropped my friend, she went in, came out with the money, paid him and we drove off. I got home, paid the driver as and he left. I couldn’t believe I was home, as I opened my door I fell to my bed and the next time I opened my eyes, it was 6.am. I got a call later from my friend telling me how she slept off as well as she got home. It was really a wonderful experience for me, though I was upset that day but I couldn’t stop laughing as I think about what went down on that faithful Friday.
